How Curiosity Shaped Ayham’s Career at GC

Ayham’s journey at GlobalConnect began as a high school intern in 2nd Line support and has since grown into a career driven by curiosity, continuous learning, and the courage to take on new challenges.

What is your GC story?

My journey at GlobalConnect started already in high school, when I joined as an intern in the 2nd line team. At that time, everything was new, from systems to customer cases, but it sparked something. I got a real insight into the industry and quickly felt that this was where I wanted to grow.

After my internship, I was offered a temporary role over the summer, and later a full-time position after graduation. That’s where my career in GC truly began. I spent around four years in 2nd line, building my foundation and learning how the business works from the ground up.

But early on, I set a goal for myself, to move into more advanced technical roles. So, when I started to feel that I had learned what I could in 2nd Line, I didn’t stay comfortable. I began looking for my next challenge internally. That mindset took me to NOC, where I spent almost three years expanding my technical skills and working more closely with different parts of the organization. And the same pattern has continued. When I feel ready for something new, I actively explore what could be my next move to continue developing towards my goals.

Today, I work as a Network Specialist within Transmission Services, a role I applied for after being curious about new systems and wanting to go deeper technically.

How have you worked on developing yourself within GC?

For me, development has always been about continuous improvement, especially in how I communicate and work professionally. When I started, I had very limited experience in customer dialogue and technical communication.

I’ve mainly developed by learning from my mistakes. Whenever something didn’t go as planned, I asked for feedback to understand what I could do better next time. Over time, this has helped me adapt my communication depending on whether I’m working with customers, technicians, or colleagues.

Another important part has been challenging myself by stepping into new roles when I feel ready, rather than staying too long in the same position. That has pushed my development further.

What has been your biggest challenge going into a new role?

The biggest challenge has been adapting to new teams and ways of working. Every team has its own routines, mindset, and dynamics, and no two teams are the same.

Learning how to collaborate effectively in a new group and understanding how people think and work has taken effort each time. At the same time, having built relationships across the organization has made it easier to integrate faster into new roles and teams.

Do you have any advice for others who want to grow within GC?

I would say, set a clear goal early on. Think about where you want to be in the future, for example in five years, and work towards that step by step.

Also, don’t hesitate to reach out beyond your own team. Talk to people in other departments, ask what they do, and try to understand their work. If something feels interesting, take the opportunity to explore it further.

For me, growth has come from being curious and taking initiative when something feels right.
